Home-Built Rocket Launches Over Ghost Town on Saturday

“Mad” Mike Hughes is going to launch himself over the ghost town Amboy, in the Mojave Desert, this Saturday and televise it on his YouTube channel. He built his rocket by himself and plans on flying over 1 mile in distance and up to an altitude of 1,800 feet. All of this from a guy who says he doesn’t believe in science because it’s just a bunch of formulas. All I have to say is good luck because you’re going to need it, Mike.

On the morning of the launch, Hughes will heat about 70 gallons of water in a stainless steel tank and then blast off between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. He plans to go about a mile – reaching an altitude of about 1,800 feet – before pulling two parachutes. They’re discouraging fans – safety issues – but it will be televised on his YouTube channel . He said he’s been in contact with the Federal Aviation Administration and the Bureau of Land Management.
