Ford Mustang hybrid coming next year

Filed under:
,,,,,,

We love driving the Ford Mustang. We’ve got one — a GT — in the Autoblog stable at the moment, and the keys to that V8-powered, rear-wheel-drive beast are highly coveted in the office. Some of us (well, maybe just this particular author) feel a tinge of guilt, though, when we fire it up and lustfully rev the engine. We can’t help but think of the fuel it gulps on our spirited commutes home. For those of us with a heavy conscience, it looks like we’ll be getting a greener offering in

Ford Focus ST to come with a 275-hp 1.5-liter three-cylinder?

Filed under:
,,,,

AutoGuide reports that the coming Ford Focus ST will run with a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine producing 275 horsepower. This is a novel assertion for several reasons, the first being that it mimics a similarly unsourced rumor from one year ago in Autocar, down to the cylinder count and horsepower. Auto Guide leaves out the particulars about how Ford would coax more than 180 hp-per-liter from the L Dragon engine; Autocar’s 2017 article said the Blue Oval would rely on twin-scroll t

Zellmer: Porsche building 500 fast-chargers in U.S.

Filed under:

When we talked with folks at Porsche about introducing the Mission E here in the U.S., they acknowledged that charging infrastructure was a challenge the company must face head-on. “We have to work on our charging infrastructure [across] the nation, so that range anxiety — despite the fact that we have a bigger range than 300 miles — is not a barrier,” Porsche Cars North America President and CEO Klaus Zellmer told us. Now we know a little more about that plan, as Zellmer told Automo

Pagani planning new all-electric supercar

Filed under:
,,,,,

The Pagani Huayra is nearing the end of its run. The final coupe — number 100 — will be dressed up like Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes-AMG F1 car. The roadster version that follows will be limited to just 100 examples, too. It should be no surprise then that the company is working on its third model. According to Car and Driver, a fourth one is in the works, too. Rather than a big, twin-V12, the fourth model will be all electric.

Lexus exploring PHEV, full EV and fuel cell versions of LS flagship

Filed under:
,,,,,,

After four years of rumors about a Lexus LS powered by a hydrogen fuel cell, the chief engineer of the flagship sedan says the carmaker’s working on even more options. Toshio Asahi told Australia’s GoAuto that three alternative powertrains — plug-in hybrid, full electric, and hydrogen — are “all on the table” for consideration. Asahi wouldn’t give any timeframes, but whenever they arrive, additional drive options would fill out the LS range to better contend with the Germans.

Sunday Drive: One of these things is not like the others

One of these things is not like the others. And we don’t mean that one is a Chevy while the rest are all from Ford. No, what we’re looking at here are a bunch of performance cars, with one lone economy car thrown in for good measure.
